Description
"Our Best Words" is a
long-lost newspaper written
by Unitarian Jasper Douthit.
Original copies are archived
in the Shelby County
Historical and Genealogical
Society in Shelbyville,
Illinois, while others have
been preserved on microfilm
in the Andover-Harvard
Theological Library. In this
paper, Judy Rosella Edwards
reveals the history of "Our
Best Words." Among these
treasures are personal notes
from John Stephen Sargent, a
member of the Koreshan Unity
and father of artist Paul
Sargent; Josephine Cochrane,
inventor of watch became the
Kitchen-Aid dishwasher; Ada
Kepley, arguably the first
woman to become a lawyer;
and Col. Dudley Chase Smith,
a relative of Philander
Chase, along with a history
of the chautauqua movement
in Illinois and discussion
about the Western Issue in
the Unitarian church.
